Careers with SMPG

We aim to hire psychologists who ultimately wish to run their own practices but want some help learning the ropes. We offer an “incubator” approach to starting your practice. This allows us to provide exceptional client services, while supporting psychologists in their career goals beyond their time with SMPG.

What We Offer

Starting your own practice can be daunting.  It’s difficult to know where to begin, especially when professional development in this area was not offered through one’s graduate program.  For this reason, many new psychologists seek out group practices for the scaffolding they provide, but often still find it difficult to make the leap from a group setting to an independent practice.

At SMPG, our goal is to help early career psychologists become independent. Like a traditional group practice, we help you build a caseload of your own. Uniquely, we will also provide one-on-one and group consultation as needed for clinical work, and professional mentorship specific to the world of private practice. Those who feel ready to do so may transition the caseload they have built at SMPG to their own practice, after the incubator year.

Who We’re Looking For

Candidates must have completed their postdoctoral training and hold a psychologist’s license in California. Ideally, candidates will also be starting in private practice for the first time. At this time, we are looking specifically for psychologists with strong training in and experience providing dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), in addition to other evidence-based treatment modalities for adults with depression, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders.
